Der erste Besuch / First Visit

Last Sunday we just wanted to stop for a quick visit at Mr. H. house, who agreed to help us to get in contact with the ethnic group we would like to work with. But instead of just stoping by to greet him we decided that we will leave for our first visit on Tuesday. I guess its good to be spontaneous here. We discussed a few things regarding the trip and drove home to talk about what exactly we want to do there on our first visit, which papers we still need to get (e.g. approval from the mayor) and what we still need to buy (as e.g. there is no drinking water out there).

Today I can already tell you about our visit. After we were told that the drive takes 10 hours, we were glad when we arrived after only 8 hours. We were introduced to the family of Mr. H., where we stayed for 2 nights. However, there was only a small double bed on which Hundertmarks all slept together, while I made myself comfortable on a straw mat on the floor. It was alright for two nights ;)

We spent the day we were there walking around in the village, greeting people and asking them some questions. Since this was the first visit, it was simply about making contacts and get a first impression of life there. We are glad everything went smoothly and the way back took only 5,5 h ;)

Es kann los gehn.
Ready to go.

On the way into the village you have to cross a river (when the tide is low ;)).

There were a lot of people present to welcome us. It might have to do that one of the candidates, who would like to become the next mayor, came thought just a litte bit before us.

Good thing it was full moon while we were there. That way we could find our way to the toilet even in the middle of night, which was outside behind a little metal wall.

Two skinny chicken were killed for us for lunch.

I got down to take a picture of the kids, but then they all bend down as well :D

This elderly lady came and set down next to me while Ryan was about to ask the eldest of the village some questions. After a few minutes she wanted to leave and thought if I have a bit of money for her :D (unfortunately I didn't).

Das ist mein Lieblingsfoto von dem Besuch. Die Frau vor ihrer Küche.
This is my favorite picture of the trip. The lady infront of her kitchen.
